Across both Eastern and Western cultures, red symbolises everything from danger and power to passion and celebration. From Hans Christian Andersen’s The Red Shoes to contemporary fashion, the red shoe has remained a recurring symbol associated with femininity and statement making.

Inspired by storytelling and emotional interpretation, the project explored individual perceptions of the iconic shoes through interviews, archive research and an exhibition piece.

Our final outcome was an interactive exhibition space showcasing the interviews, with a word association exercise along with a poster highlighting our archival and timeline research.

The project highlighted how fashion objects can hold deeply personal and cultural meaning and reinforced my value of conversation and lived experience within creative research.
